What’s Happening in September at Legacy Martial Arts
Happy September! We are excited to kick off the fall with some exciting schedule changes, new monthly topics, and fun events!
We are looking forward to hosting our tournament, Fort Wayne Karate Championship, this month on September 27th at Concordia Seminary. We are honored that the Girl Scouts from troop 00463 will be providing concessions. Is your student competing? Find the registration links below to save time on the day of the event.
This month we are excited to kick off Saturday classes for Black Belt Trainers who want some extra training! (Sudents, see the monthly calendar for class days and times.)
September’s Black Belt Excellence: Anger Management
Our Black Belt Excellence topic for September is Anger Management. Karate is an incredible tool for both kids and adults to learn how to handle emotions, especially anger. Classes provide a healthy outlet for stress and pent-up feelings, while the physical workout releases endorphins that naturally boost mood. The high energy of training often leaves students feeling calmer, more focused, and in control.
With our younger students, we’ll dive deeper during Mat Chat by discussing positive ways to release anger. Their monthly homework features a story about a dragon named Drako who stomps and roars when he feels mad. With guidance from Ember, a wise dragon, Drako learns strategies to “cool his fire.” After the story, students will reflect through follow-up questions, helping them connect the lesson to their own experiences and discover healthy ways to cool their fire when frustration or anger arises.
September’s Drill for Skill: Intensity
Our Drill for Skill in September is Intensity and the stripe color is red. Intensity is how strong something feels, sounds, or looks. It can be soft and gentle, or loud and powerful. This connects directly with our BBE topic, Anger Management. When we practice intensity, we’re not just moving fast or hitting hard, we’re learning how to control our energy and focus it in a positive way.
Anger can feel like big, out-of-control energy, but through martial arts we teach students how to channel that same energy into strong techniques, disciplined movement, and respectful behavior. By practicing intensity in class, our students are developing the tools to manage their emotions, respond with control instead of reaction, and turn anger into power they can use to succeed.
